The story

The challenge

Free Bible apps tend to pay for themselves with ads, accounts and tracking, and the good parts — narration, study tools, search that understands you — often sit behind a subscription. We wanted one we could hand to anyone: complete, quick, private and free.

What we built

Dappit Bible is one React code base that runs as a web app and, through Capacitor, as native Android and iPhone apps with native audio. A Cloudflare Worker serves the text, the search and the church content; narration streams from object storage or downloads for listening offline.

    Open

Open bible.dappit.org in any browser, or install it from Google Play.

  2. 02

    Read & listen

Read with the words of Jesus in red, or press play and follow the highlighted verse.

  3. 03

    Search

Find a passage by its words, its reference or what it’s about.

  4. 04

    Study

Tap a word for its Strong’s entry and its Hebrew letters.

Capabilities

What makes Dappit Bible different.

  • Every chapter, read aloud

All 1,189 chapters are narrated, and the verse being read is highlighted. Change the speed, use the lock-screen controls, or download the audio for offline.

  • Find it by meaning

Search by words, by reference, or by what a passage is about. Semantic search finds the verse even when you can’t remember how it’s worded.

  • Strong’s & Hebrew

Tap a word for its Strong’s entry — all 14,298 are there — and explore Hebrew words letter by letter, with the pictograph behind each letter.

  • Made for reading

The words of Jesus in red, a two-page spread on tablets, and notes, bookmarks, backups and share links for any verse.

  • For churches

A church directory, with songs, bulletins and a weekly verse published for each congregation.

  • Free, and private

No ads, no analytics and no tracking — and nothing to pay.

The app

Read, listen, search and study.

Engineering

Under the hood.

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Vite
  • Capacitor
  • Cloudflare Workers
  • Hono
  • Neon Postgres
  • Workers AI
  • R2

Built in-house, AI-first: 250 of its 272 commits landed in October 2026, taking it from a web app to native Android and iPhone builds. Our engineers owned the architecture and every release; AI agents sped up implementation and testing.

  • React 19 and Vite for one code base that ships as a web app and, through Capacitor 8, as Android and iPhone apps.

  • Native audio players on Android and iOS, for background playback and lock-screen controls.

  • A Cloudflare Worker (Hono) serves the API, with Neon Postgres reached through Hyperdrive and sign-in on Neon Auth.

  • Verse search by meaning uses embeddings generated on Workers AI.

  • About 2.6 GB of narration lives in R2 — streamed, or downloaded for offline listening.

  • Transactional email through Postmark.
